MANNA · FEST

Pillar 03 · Vision

One ethos. Many places.

A world of possibilities, held together not by a headquarters but by shared values.

The core idea, plainly put.

Manna Fest proposes that any community, anywhere, can host a festival rooted in generosity — sharing food, music, skills, stories and care.

There is no franchise and no fixed format. What connects each gathering is an ethos: a handful of principles that keep the spirit consistent while the details stay wonderfully local.

What it could include

How the model is intended to work

  • 01

    Locally hosted

Each Manna Fest is organised by people who live where it happens.

  • 02

    Locally shaped

Programmes reflect local food, music, crafts, languages and seasons.

  • 03

    Ethos-led

Shared principles guide every gathering rather than central rules.

  • 04

    Open and evolving

The ethos is a draft that communities are invited to improve.

  • 05

    Connected

Over time, hosts could share learning, resources and encouragement.

  • 06

    Non-extractive

The aim is value shared within communities, not profit taken out.

Long-term possibility

A worldwide web of local gatherings.

If the idea resonates, Manna Fests could one day take place in many countries at once — each different, each recognisable by its spirit. That's an aspiration, not an achievement. It only happens if people choose to make it happen.

Proposed principles

The Manna Ethos, draft one.

Offered as a starting point, not a final word.

  1. 1

    Generosity & sharing

Bring what you can — a dish, a song, a skill, a pair of hands. Value is measured in what is shared, not what is sold.

  2. 2

    Community & belonging

A Manna Fest should leave people feeling more connected to their neighbours than when they arrived.

  3. 3

    Creativity & participation

Everyone is a contributor. The line between audience and performer is meant to blur.

  4. 4

    Cultural respect & exchange

Celebrate many cultures with curiosity and consent, letting communities tell their own stories in their own way.

  5. 5

Sustainability & care for the Earth

Gather lightly. Use local, seasonal and reused materials, and leave places better than they were found.

  6. 6

    Inclusion & accessibility

Design for every age, ability, background and budget, so no one is left at the edge of the field.

  7. 7

    Learning & sharing knowledge

Treat every gathering as a classroom without walls, where elders, children and strangers teach one another.

Honest about where we are

Aspiration, not achievement.

What exists today

  • An idea and a name: Manna Fest.
  • A first draft of shared principles.
  • This concept website, built to start the conversation.

What we hope for

  • Communities hosting their own first gatherings.
  • A growing, open set of principles shaped by many voices.
  • A way for hosts around the world to find and support each other.

Questions for your community

Questions we're still answering together

  1. 1.

How light can shared principles be while still meaning something?

  2. 2.

How can hosts support each other without central control?

  3. 3.

What does accessibility look like in very different places?

  4. 4.

How should the ethos change as communities add their voices?
